China Is Buying Influence from Think Tanks and Media

The CCP has been trying to influence the narrative on China for decades, and one way it’s trying to do that is through economic incentives to think tanks, media and universities. This ensures that thought leaders don’t draw too much attention to China’s human rights abuses, look too closely at its subversion operations in the US, or raise red flags about China’s ambitions overseas. In this episode of China Unscripted, we talk about Chinese influence operations, Chinese activists’ positions on US politics, and what the Olympics has shown us about China’s influence abroad. Joining us in this episode is J Michael Waller, a senior analyst for strategy at the Center for Security Policy.
