China’s Saber Rattling Over Pelosi’s Taiwan Trip Backfires

China sent missiles over Taiwan after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the highest ranking US politician to visit in years, stopped in Taiwan as part of a tour of Asia. It wasn’t just missiles though—China held a gauntlet of military drills during and after her visit. In this episode of China Unscripted, we look at how China’s saber rattling could backfire on it, the difference between Pelosi and President Joe Biden on Taiwan, and why Pelosi’s trip was so important. Joining us in this episode is Guermantes Lailari, a retired US Air Force foreign area officer specializing in the Middle East and Europe, as well as irregular warfare and missile defense. He is currently a Taiwan Fellow at National Chengchi University in Taipei.
