The Pros And Cons Of Living In Goochland VA | Is Goochland County A Good Place To Live in Virginia?

Curious about country living? Want to know if Goochland VA is the place for you? In this video we break down the pros and cons of living in Goochland County in Virginia! This is our first video about living in Goochland but it definitely won’t be our last so be sure to subscribe to our channel so you don’t miss any upcoming videos!

Pro #1 – The best part about living in Goochland Virginia is that it is possible to find homes with actual acreage!

Pro #2 – Certain parts of Goochland County are very convenient to other major areas. Eastern Goochland is only a few minute drive to everything that Short Pump Virginia has to offer! Western Goochland is a nice middle grounds if you need to live between Charlottesville and Richmond.

Pro #3 – Lots of top employers are located in the eastern part of Goochland, known as the West Creek Business Park.

Pro #4 – Goochland County has one of the lowest real estate tax rates around Richmond.

Con #1 – Not every home has access to high speed internet. A good rule of thumb is that as you increase acreage, you decrease your chance of having high speed internet.

Con #2 – Lack of public utilities, specifically natural gas. Many homes in Goochland will have propane tanks to supply gas to the home for cooking or heating.

Con #3 – Most of the major roads through Goochland run east and west. Traveling north or south in the county isn’t as easy.

Con #4 – The school systems are not rated as highly as elsewhere throughout Richmond Va.

Con #5 – Lacking commercial development. There are very few grocery stores and restaurants located throughout Goochland, especially when you compare it to many other suburbs.

Con #6 – Most homes are on well water and when you lose power you will lose your water pressure. You will want to get a backup generator if you live in Goochland on well water to ensure you don’t lose your ability to have water while the power is out.

Pro/Con – Goochland is a slow growth county so Goochland will stay just like Goochland for a while.
