Xi Jinping has urged his navy to be prepared for “military struggle” and to “nurture a fighting spirit”.He also wants China’s navy to become world-class. In this episode of China Unscripted, we look at why China wants to dominate the seas, the state of the US Navy, and how the Russian invasion of Ukraine is similar and different than a hypothetical invasion of Taiwan by China. Joining us in this episode is retired US Navy Commander Paul Giarra. He managed the US-Japan alliance for the office of the Secretary of Defense, and helped create the global strategy for the US Navy at the end of the Cold War.
