For years, the United States and other western countries thought that by doing trade with China, China would get a taste of democracy and a liberalized economy, and would reform accordingly. That didn’t end up happening, but maybe the reverse did. And now American elite, like Michael Bloomberg and Elon Musk, are infatuated with China’s authoritarian methods of control.
