Will the US Abandon Its Base in Okinawa, Japan?

The US has had military bases in Okinawa, Japan, for decades, and the US hasn’t indicated it’s planning to leave. But events could transpire that could make it too risky to stay, like China capturing the Senkaku islands that Japan controls but China lays claim to. In this episode of China Unscripted, we discuss the strategic location of the Senkaku islands, the United States history with the islands, and US-Japan joint bases. Joining us in this episode is Dr. Robert Eldridge, an expert on Japan’s security and diplomacy and a senior researcher for the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies in Tokyo.
